Share your passion for Harleys and the open road!

I have an "07" Hert. Classic
within the first 6 months the bike would backfire and stall after deceleration, this happen maybe 3-5 time with NOTHING being consistant.
Harley can couldn't find anything wrong.
I Since installed the Power commander, the same situation, backfire and stalling was and is happening now on a weekly bases. I have remapped it severl times, including custom map. the feel and power the backfiring has gotten worse. the stalling remain abit better.

HELP!!!
anyone with any imput on which one to go with and why.
I know the T-Max takes over the entire elec. system
that voids that part of the warranty. That is a conceren of mine.
Other then that I am open minded.
Thanks

any and all feed back is greatly appr.

Hey Tim! Was your bike completely stock when it started acting up, or did you make any mods? I see in the pics that you have aftermarket pipes installed. What was the configuration when the problem first started?

I've had success with the Vance & Hines Fuel Pak. It is very easy to configure. I installed V & H Big Shots w/ a Stage I breather and the bike runs great. The Fuel Pak just plugs inline with the control module and can be removed at any time. The FP is designed for mostly stock engines with mild mods. But I would try to rule out anything else before investing more money.
V & H pipes, upgraded air filter.

Like I said with the power commander, made it mor frequent.

I am hearing great things about the thundermax.
does the V&H fuel pak give the same feeling as the other/s fuel system, and now I am hearing of this company Daytona, I see it's runs off dyno maps like the power commander.

thanks for the feed back.
So if the bike ran well before the pipes and air cleaner were installed we can assume everything was good with the factory equipment. Any time you change the pipes and add a higher volume breather you're going to have to adjust the fuel to match, so it make's sense that it was acting up after that.

I haven't had any experience personally with the Power Commander, but my guess would be that it was never set up properly. That's what's nice about a system like the V & H FuelPak. You don't have to be an expert to get the fuel/air ratio just right. I used it and I know a couple of other guys who had great success with the product the first time around. As far as the improvement, I didn't dyno my bike, but from a seat-of-the-pants evaluation, the combination with the pipes and breather made a huge difference!

With the V & H system, they basically do dyno testing to model various setups. Then they dial in the FuelPak settings so you can duplicate the same thing at home by programming your unit with a code you get online.

As for the warranty questions, you'll have to ask Harley. I believe that using ANY aftermarket alterations other than Harley's could be cause enough for your warranty to be voided. (Maybe one of our other members can better answer this question?)

Another idea might be to contact the Maker of Power Commander and explain your problem. They might tell you what to do to get a better result. I've found Mfg's tech departments to be very helpful in the past.

I hope this helps! :)
When I purchased the bike I had harley put on the pipes and air before I took it off the floor.
it would backfire and stall about 4 times within a 6-8 month period, Harley changed the download, dyno and check for any error messages, which their were none. It was suggested I should go with the power commander, I did and it only made it worse and ALOT more frequent. Almost to a daily occurance.

I don't know maybe the unit itself is defective, I have to get that checked.
I haven't heard anything negitive about the Thundermax and as far as the V&H Fuel pak, I have been told by a few mech. don't bother.

I am researching all my opions at this point.
Hey Tim, I work w/Big Len. He told me about the problem your having with your Hert. Classic.
I have an 05 Classic.I put V&H straight shots, with V&H fuel pak,and Arlen Ness Big Sucker on my bike.I've got to say,It was worth the money I spent.I don't have a problem with backfires. When I talked to the guys @ V&H(California),they were very heplful. They explained pretty much what Lenny was telling you.And I had no problem doing it myself.
Thanks for the feed back. how much (if any) mileage did you lose or gain as well as any hp or tq. with the V&H fuel pak, roughly?

The Power commander as left a bad taste with me.
Hey Tim! Please let us know how things work out for you, no matter what avenue you deside to take. I'm sure the info. will be helpful to others who want to make the same upgrades. Thanks again and good luck!
Tim just informed me that ultimately he went with the Screamin' Eagle Super Tune. He learned that the reason that he was having so many issues with the bike running properly, is that the person who installed the Power Commander cut the factory harness disabling the sensors.

Now that that's all straightened out Tim is a happy man!
