To all,
Well, as it turns out, our instincts regarding that letter from the MVC weren't too far off. A.B.A.T.E. received
word of a rider being pulled over by a Raritan Police Officer just hours after
following the instructions in the MVC eMail to remove both his registration and inspection stickers
from his motorcycle license plate. He wasn't pulled over for any reason
other than to check his license, registration and insurance. It was obvious
that this officer had not received word of the changes in the law regarding
motorcycle inspections and was unaware that the MVC had directed motorcyclists
to remove the inspection and registration stickers. He was not cited for this
or any other infraction and was let go after the officer gave him a hard time
about not having them displayed.
Since we are sure this is not the only officer in NJ, or other States, that isn't aware of these changes, here is
what we are suggesting you do. Make a copy of the MVC letter and the MVC eMail
(attached), and carry it with you when you are riding. If you get pulled over
for not having the stickers, politely show the officer the letter/eMail. If he
still insists on giving you a ticket for that reason, it will be dismissed by
the court. Do not argue with the officer as it will only make matters worse.
Just take the ticket and deal with it in court.
A.B.A.T.E. will be addressing this with the MVC and the Raritan Police Department.
A PDF copy of the MVC letter and the MVC eMail is attached for you to print and keep on your
bike.
Please forward this to any Clubs and motorcycle riders that you have contact with.
